Fraud Alert: HR & Check Scams
We have recently received several inquiries of fraudulent activity involving individuals posing as company representatives and/or issuing fake checks sent to homes. Please be aware of the following common scam tactics:
How the Scam Works
Scammers may:
- Contact individuals claiming to represent our company or HR team
- Send checks for “employment,” “equipment,” or “reimbursements,” usually from a generic name for an unspecified service
- Instruct recipients to deposit the check and quickly return a portion of the funds via wire transfer, payment apps, or gift cards
These checks are fraudulent. While they may initially appear to clear, banks can take days or weeks to confirm they are fake, which will leave the recipient responsible for any money sent.
What to Do
- Do not deposit suspicious checks
- Do not send money or share personal information
- Report suspicious activity to your bank immediately
- Contact our team through our contact form
Important Reminder
Batson-Cook Construction and its subsidiaries will never ask candidates, employees, or partners to send money, return funds from a check, or purchase gift cards as part of any legitimate process.
Remember: If you have never worked with our company or had any prior dealings with us, you are likely being targeted by a scam.
If you believe you have been targeted by this type of fraud, please report it to us immediately.
