- Batson-Cook performed general contracting services for this 44,000-square-foot, four-story museum in Uptown Charlotte.
- The facility includes three galleries, a classroom, rentable function space with an outdoor terrace, a boardroom, reception area, and museum store.
- The structure was designed and constructed to reflect the heritage, history, and culture of the African-American community in Charlotte.
- The museum is home to one of the most significant collections of African-American Art in the United States: the Hewitt Collection.
- The building has a custom metal corrugated perforated panel exterior with stucco, ACM panels (traditional metal panels), clear vision glass, and a sloped glass focal point with a pop-up on the 4th floor.
- The metal panels represent a quilt pattern theme, mirroring the fact that there are many quilts in the collection that is housed in the museum.
